8th grade

Newton's 2nd Law of Motion in a game! Students made up a game using corks and a catapult and their imaginations....Class of 2014 working their magic! Love it.
F=MxA A =F/M
Now demonstrate it!

Something to think about...

8th grade

Lots and lots of physics principles being studied and experiments/labs are in full swing.
This lab tested Newton's First and Third Laws of Motion.

4th grade - checking out a bird aviary webcam

The students made observations looking at the bird aviary webcam at www.montereybayaquarium.org

5th grade

Making parallel and series circuits - is it an open or closed circuit? And what does that mean exactly?

6th grade SOIL LAB in the field

So....how to make soil interesting? Well, we went out into the school area and took soil samples from all around. The students checked air and soil temperature, looked for any living creatures and soil horizons. Inside the lab, the students checked soil pH and identified soil type using a flow chart and testing texture, color and saturation. And plus it was fun to get OUTSIDE! :)

Checking the soil temperature.

Thanks again 6th grade for allowing me the freedom to try something new with you and doing a great job learning about soil.

5th grade conductor or insulator?

Learning about electricity isn't easy. But one of the concepts they worked on is whether something is a conductor (allows the flow of electrons) or an insulator.

4th grade They had to build them first though!

4th grade - BIRD SANCTUARIES

Working collaboratively, each table of students designed and created bird sanctuaries. We have learned that birds are very important to our ecosystem and need a place to feel protected. Our communities grow and encroach on their natural habitats.
They sketched their works and labeled them too. GREAT job 4th grade, it isn't easy to collaborate - but it is fun to create and use Legos!

Something to think about...

One of many reasons why science AND art are so fun! And why, EVERY day, my students teach ME something too.

4th graders taking flight

Making three paper gliders each, the students tested their designs for flight time, distance and smoothness.

Working as a team to measure!

6th grade

Where Acid Reigns -checking the effect of chemical weathering on: limestone, granite and marble.

Measuring and using vinegar to simulate the acid in acid rain from carbon emissions and fossil fuel use.

Putting samples of rock in containers.

Using litmus and pH paper to detect hydrogen ions.

Observing reactions. Is there any bubbling?

7th grade Binomial nomenclature aka - Classification!

Students made quick PicCollages and then links with the classification of many different animals. Here are just a few of the choices they made:

 Cool choice Zoe!

 Really interesting pics!

 Thanks Laura!

 Great assortment of pics Dylan

Way to bring awareness through pics of these amazing creatures and climate change Bella M.

Oh my Matthew! Thanks for reminding us!

 What magnificent creatures Joshua,thanks!

Is it Dory Izadora? Cool!

 Love this insect! Thanks Skyler.

Who knew goldfish could be so funny?
Thanks Jesse!
