5th grade

Upon return from Outdoor Ed., the 5th grade had a guest speaker from the SF Public Utility Commission. The title of the presentation was, "Save Our Bay". Students were shown through a short participatory skit, how the bay has become polluted through the years. The student included skit portrayed the activities from the Gold Rush years to modern day. From miners dumping chemicals to present day and improper garbage disposal which creates litter, students were presented a jug full if dirty, polluted water.
The students were challenged to become Water Heroes and pledge how they could make a difference.
Individually it may seem daunting to find ways to truly change habits - from shorter showers to not or axing bottled water - COLLECTIVELY we CAN make a difference.

6th grade

Simulating trace fossils.
Students created "stories" based on "tracks" - which were their respective fingerprints. As usual their imaginations  and creativity were great!
Then they exchanged "trace fossils" and did their own interpretations? How accurate we're their peers?

8th grade

8th graders are using teamwork and problem solving skills as they use 18 slats to build Leonardo's arch bridge. No glue, nails, tape are allowed. They figured it out and did a great job.
Using an app called iMotion, they filmed the construction using time lapse.

Learning about flight, the 4th grade let their three paper airplanes soar in the gym.  They collected  data on flight time, distance, accuracy and smoothness of flight.
